Jasper (The Dog with The Blog) | Jasper here, bringing you the Lab Report. There's nothing like a bit of decent fishing and that's exactly what these two blokes deliver...nothing like a bit of decent fishing. Luckily I'll be on hand during the 2008 series to bring a bit of pedigree to the blog. I'm the only one on the team who's well bred. In fact I think the other two are probably inbred. Anyway, rest assured poor angling practice, pathetic excuses and fisherman's tales about the one that got away will not be tolerated. I'll be giving you my behind-the-scenes perspective not only on the blogs but also right here on the website. | |
January.
Well, it's a bit pants really, isnt it, January ? The two blokes didn't get much fishing in, but they did get out and about checking out some rivers. The Trent looks pretty good, so they should be out there trying for the roach, chub, and maybe the odd barbel once the season opens in June. I had a pretty good month, I've had to learn to fetch things like sticks, but as soon as I bring it back the Gaffer throws it away again. God knows what that's all about. Probably some sort of canine job creation scheme.
February
The blokes took me fishing twice. One occasion was a really frosty day and we were up at the crack of dawn, and down at the river trying for roach. The other was down at some lake, and they had the cheek to tie me to a tree for nearly half an hour while they got set up just because I ate two pineapple flavour boilies. I did my usual trick of licking my bits while they weren't looking and then licking their faces when they came to untie me. Hah! The satisfaction.
Russ picked a swim with an overhanging tree, which is daft for float fishing. Sure enough he got through more hooklengths than he did fish. Paul chucked way too much bait in for a cold day, and the longer the bites took the more he chucked in. As a reward, I gave his face an extra lick. What a pair.
March
Well, what a month. The weather has been shocking. Still, this'll give you a laugh...the Gaffer did a bit of pike fishing. He caught an absolute beauty, in fact it wouldn't go in his landing net, so he had to unhook it in the water. As he was on his own this meant he couldn't operate the camera...so that's one fish you won't see on the blog. Early attempts at carp fishing were cut short due to the weather, but on a more positive note I think they've forgotten to take me to the vet, phew! Also I overheard them talking about a 'Highlights of 2007' episode, so keep an eye open for that.
April
I wasn't actually invited on this fishing trip, but I'm not stupid. It looks very much like there's been some professional help with this catch. If I'm not mistaken that's top TV angler , predator fishing guru and all round great bloke Mick Brown. Let's hope the gaffer got a few tips, eh? Rumour has it this pike was caught on a Kebab Rig, so you might well be seeing that technique on a future episode.
The HIghlights of 2007 vid is now finished and can be seen right here on the latest vids page, plus on carp.tv, youtube and elsewhere.
May
Well, things have really got going, despite the rivers being closed until next month. There's been some great stillwater action, and the forthcoming vid and internet blog episodes should be good, and available soon. Mainly I've been keeping an eye on the carp fishing , and it should be a good year if the early season action is anything to go by.
June
Brilliant! Summer really get's going and there's been a good few carp catches down at the lake. The Gaffer took me down to the Trent, but we only had the middle of the day free and an evening session would be better. I loved it down there, cos I get lots of attention from the ramblers, the boat people wave to me, and I get to growl at the sheep.
July
Normally the height of the carp fishing season, but The Gaffer and Old Two Hats have been so busy with work that they've missedout on a few trips. They've also had e-mails asking when the next blog will be out on youtube. At this rate it won't be until next month, but I can tell you that it will include catching carp on the 'Flat Float' method, Two Hats dragging some chub out of the Trent and a section on tying carp rigs, which is response to several requests from viewers. I'm looking forward to it, but I'm NOT looking forward to a trip to the Vet which will keep me away from the bank for a bit...it's a dogs life.
